We did take another ghost tour (another time) of St. Augustine historical sights. There was an incid
St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum is a working lighthouse serving the nation's oldest port. The waters around St. Augustine can be treacherous. In the 16 th Century the Spanish built a watchtower, but it wasn't until 1824 that an official tower and beacon was built giving Florida its first official lighthouse.
Each lighthouse has its own unique coloring indicating its daymark and it has nighttime signature indicating its nightmark . This is to allow mariners to establish their location. St. Augustine's colors are black and white spiral stripes with a red lantern and their signature is a thirty-second venetian site hotel rooms fixed flash.
The keeper's house is now the Lighthouse Museum. The lighthouse and the keeper's house have rich and interesting venetian site hotel rooms history, and there are numerous stories about the ghosts that still walk the grounds.
One such apparition is of a man smoking a cigar. He has been seen casually walking the grounds or has appeared as a pale luminous figure. It is believed to be Captain Rassmunsun, the former lighthouse keeper, since it is a known fact that his wife wouldn't allow him to smoke in the house and he would go outside to enjoy his cigar.
On July 10, 1873, five children were playing. venetian site hotel rooms They decided it would be fun to ride the railcar venetian site hotel rooms down the steep slope. The railcar venetian site hotel rooms didn't make the turn, but plunged into the Atlantic Ocean. Workers tried to save them, but they only saved a boy and a girl. Two of Pitte's daughters, Mary (15), and Eliza (13), and a young black girl, either a servant venetian site hotel rooms or the daughter of one of the workers venetian site hotel rooms drowned.
Many of the staff have seen an apparition of a young girl standing venetian site hotel rooms by the spiral staircase in the keeper's house. Even visitors have seen a teenage girl on the lower level of the keeper's house, believing she was an employee because she was dressed in period clothing like some of the other emplyees. When they would turn to ask her a question, she d already vanished.
The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS), an organization based in Warwick, Rhode Island was asked to investigate the lighthouse. During the episode of Ghost Hunters , they captured audible voices from the top of the Lighthouse. One was a female voice that sounded venetian site hotel rooms like she said, "Help me." A shadowy figure can be seen moving up the circular staircase and at one point; it looks like the figure is looking down at them from the railing. Then it simply disappears. If have the chance to catch a repeat of this eerie episode on the Sci-fi channel, you may find yourself convince the Lighthouse is haunted, too.
The Lighthouse offers a haunted tour, "Dark of the Moon Tour" on certain days of the month so you will have to check the schedule. You'll be able to tour the site at night and receive history about who lived and died on the property. I happened to take the tour with A Ghostly Experience . They offer different tours around St. Augustine. The coach tour took us to the lighthouse, but we were not permitted inside. I took the self-guided tour during operating hours for the daylight photos.

Great blog! I ve been there during the day as well, but not on an investigation after hours. It s an awesome site with a rich history, venetian site hotel rooms the whole city is. Our group would like to do an investigation there but it s pricey to rent.
SOOOooooooo enjoyed this post! Im native born-and-raised Floridian (but live in the Southwest now), and St. Augustine is one of my FAVE spots. This Lighthouse is a MUST SEE if you go there. venetian site hotel rooms THANKS so much for making me homesick and sharing venetian site hotel rooms this!
Sorry, I made you homesick, but glad you enjoyed the post. I love St. Augustine! We went to Disneyworld for our vacation, but took a day trip to St. Augustine. It was one of my favorite parts of the holiday.
I ve been on a private venetian site hotel rooms ghost investigation of the lighthouse and another of the grounds. There is a ghost in the basement who is reputed to become very angry if anyone moves or sits in his chair. Some of the guys tried sitting in it to annoy him, but he failed to make an appearance. venetian site hotel rooms Other investigators have smelled the pipe smoke of a lighthouse keeper or captured orbs that they say have the keeper s face in them. He often makes an appearance venetian site hotel rooms on the grounds so you don t have to go inside.
venetian site hotel rooms The minute I read the word ghosts , I was all into this article. I watch Ghost Hunters whenever I can what fascinating things they run into. It almost makes even cynical me wonder could it be true? If I actually saw a ghost, venetian site hotel rooms it would either send me flying outta there as fast as my legs could carry me or it would renew my faith.
We did take another ghost tour (another time) of St. Augustine historical sights. There was an incident where I heard murmurs and music down one of the alleys where there shouldn t have been any. I thought it was part of the tour. I know sometimes they like to play up the eerie , but later when I commented on it with my husband, he gave me a curious look. He said there wasn t any music or talking. Did I hear ghosts, making a last plea to be heard? Who knows.
