Thirty five children have just finished the first locally organized program for learning travel advice for military tennis in the North Channel Area. They had a great summer, and many will continue learning as the new fall program begins. If all goes well, someday our community may be cheering on a future world champion tennis player. That's how Kelley Club Tennis's story began.
Warren travel advice for military Kelley came to tennis late in life, at the ripe old age of 24. He was fascinated as he watched opponents competing on television in the US Open, and finally went out and bought a racket of his own and started teaching himself how to play. Soon he was hooked on the sport, and found himself competing in tournaments first locally, and then across the Texas.
As he competed, he learned the hard way that athleticism and determination were only two of the elements needed to win. You had to know the rules too. He took courses, studied, and soon Kelly earned travel advice for military credentials as a United States Tennis Association (USTA) and Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) official referee.
Officiating over children's matches on occasion, he noticed how the sport built character and determination in young people as it had for him. He determined that when his own children were old enough, he would share his love of the game with them.
Then fate stepped in. Warren and his wife Candice's jobs with Continental Airlines where transferred to Chicago when the airline merged with United last year. The family had roots here in Houston, and decided not to follow the move. He had all ready started teaching his oldest daughter tennis, and then his God-children, and he was impressed travel advice for military with all the other life skills they were learning. That's when he and his wife decided, why not teach other children the joy and benefits of tennis.
"I thought, there may be kids in the neighborhood that need that structure, that crave that structure, but they don't have this outlet. Now I'm giving them that chance to learn something that may change their lives," Warren said.
Candice was instrumental in helping get all the paperwork filled out and applications to start an official USTA tennis organization. In May, the couple held a "play day and youth registration drive" at a community gathering in the Sterling Green subdivision. Warren recruited and trained a couple of volunteer assistant coaches, and soon the summer program was in full swing.
They Kelley got more community support from Judge Parrott. Parrott recognized the benefits of an organized sports program like the Kelley's, and authorized a choice of community service activities for youth who were at risk. The choice:
He added, "You have to learn how to deal with the loss of a point (and get over it quickly); you may have to learn how to deal with the loss of a hard fought game (and get ready for the next); you may have to deal with the loss of a tie-break, a set, and yes, even sometimes a match. The key to me, is teaching our youth to learn to deal with victory and defeat and not let it define you, but learn from it. What a powerful life skill to apply to life!"
The summer tennis clinic ended on September 15 with the "Nickelodeon World Wide Day of Play – Play Day and Youth Registration." It was a chance for the youth to practice what they had been learning over the summer in actual competition travel advice for military with each other.  Awards were given to the children, and all got certificates of participation. Several Registered for the Fall Youth Academy and the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) Program where students can earn points toward college scholarships.
The Kelley Club Community Outreach Program is currently in talks with San Jacinto College, Sterling Green Village HOA, Sterling Green South Section 6 HOA, Galena Park ISD, and Jacinto City regarding the expansion of our NJTL Tennis Program. Kelley said, "Our ultimate goal as a community tennis travel advice for military association is to provide instructors, and equipment to have free and low-cost, youth and adult tennis programs at all of the community tennis courts within our area (East Harris County)."
