I ve never traveled like this before. I m used to air travel and occasionally a long car ride. But, on this journey around Asia it s all about train travel it s cheap, convenient, and you can travel overnight. I ve tried out every class on the trains. I ve been a VIP in my own private cabin. I ve tried the soft sleeper, hard sleeper, bottom, middle, and top bunks. I sleep well on the train, as the rocking lulls me to sleep. I awake to a new city and a new adventure it s great! budget accommodation belfast But, what happens when all the sleeper cars are sold out? You end up in a hard seat. That s how we traveled budget accommodation belfast from Xian to Guilin, the longest train journey of my life. I was nervous about this journey. It turned out better than I expected, which is not to say it was great. It was an experience and as travelers share stories, this is our badge of honor. We survived 28 hours on a train! We survived the noise. Chinese people are talkative, vivacious, and very loud. I kept asking myself: Why is everyone yelling? The noise was never ending. We survived the lack of personal space. This isn t an issue for the Chinese. They don t have that luxury in such a crowded country. So, seated five across, knees touching, shoulder to shoulder we made our trip. Some people had standing room only tickets. They sat in the aisles, slept across the bathroom sinks, under chairs and clogged budget accommodation belfast up the passage ways between train cars. Just walking to the bathroom was like participating in an obstacle course. We survived
haha Lauren, Well done!!! I ve done that before, however only 12 hours. That felt way too long. The worst thing was I kept checking my watch. every minute budget accommodation belfast was a pain. You just did 27 hours. as if you fly economy class from Chicago to Beijing.then you fly back with no delay. I bet it was so good after you got off that train. You earn my respect there. But it s a good lesson learned that any trip longer than 4 hrs. in China. Plan ahead and buy a bed ticket in their sleeping cars. Otherwise fly!
Jeez, what a journey! Though the orange carriages are still fairly new. I don t know if the green ones are still around any more and you REALLY wanna stay away from the green hard-seats cuz they are HAAAARD
To the video maker: your account of this trip is vivid and in detail, I ve been through many trips like this for countless times, only for shorter duration. And, consider yourself lucky, cause if you are not ,the tried every means but end up no ticket, not even a standing room ticket situation would happen.and, as to the bathroom part, your account cracks me up cause I know how it feels:)
The majority China must travel by train or bus, sometimes for days, when returning home for national holidays. What you experienced may not be your idea of comfortable travel, but certainly isn t the worst case scenario in China or any other country. World Record ? I don t think so. The privilege budget accommodation belfast of international travel and to experience life in another culture is far beyond the reach of many of the world s population. I d say you had an adventure that would be the envy of many.
And I m not sure where else you have been to China or whether you be making a repeat visit. It s a vast country (like USA) with diverse landscapes, ethnic grps and even climate.Forget about the mega cities with its annoying car honkings and massive crowds. I suggest places along the ancient silk route, take the sky train from BJ to Tibet, the vast grassland of Inner Mongolia n live in a yurt, the ice world and biting cold of Harbin, the majestic mts and clear lakes spread across the c try,
Fr my exper, you don t have to go through a travel agent,if you choose not to as you can always get from their ticket offices. I usually get my tkts a week to a few days before,n unless you are travelling during budget accommodation belfast their long natl holidays, it s usu not a maj probl to get the class you want. The tricky budget accommodation belfast part is you need to look at their maze of slow and high speed railway lines on the map to plan ahead when the 2 pts are not directly served by a single line. That in itself is another discovery exp.
For such a long journey, it makes sense to buy the ticket in adv, esp if the travel is done on a wkend or natl holiday. I suppose being on the cheapest class means you will have to squeeze with the poorest and often uneducated chn people who can only afford that, and students who don t have much money. So they tend to be louder and do not care very much about personal space. I travelled on the high speed train with the mostly mid-income budget accommodation belfast chn (i think) and it was a pleasant and quiet journey.
