The 2012-13 NBA season will be the first time that the Nets play in their new hometown of Brooklyn, New York since leaving their previous longtime home in New Jersey. The team reportedly announced the on-sale date first via Twitter on Monday, September 10, and later releasing a press release that announced availability of tickets. The Brooklyn Nets will play their first preseason game against the Washington Wizards on Monday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m. The 2012-13 regular season tips off for Brooklyn when they host their new rivals, the New York Knicks, on Thursday, November 1.

The NHL's New York Islanders are scheduled play the New Jersey Devils, in what would be the first ever professional hockey game to be held in Brooklyn pending a quick end to the current lockout.
