The owners of the cruise ship Costa Crociere have been quick to blame Schettino for the tragedy, claiming the captain made 'errors of judgement' sailing the Costa Concordia 'too close to the shore'. It added his judgement in handling the emergency appeared 'to have not followed standard Costa procedures'.
During the weekend the bodies of two elderly men still wearing life jackets were recovered from the luxury liner, which hit rocks off the Mediterranean island of Giglio on Friday evening christian cruise ships with more than 4,200 people on board.
