We are looking at putting our bikes in a 20' container to ship them from Sydney to Vlad in about May 2010. Three of us are going to ride across to Europe. Does anyone want to put their bikes in our container to share the costs. I rode to Vladivostok from London in 2008 and know the ropes and have a few contacts.
I would probably, look into flying your bike - its not as expensive as you imagine. The other idea you may want to research is flying into Korea and transporting or riding across the country to the ferry. Take the ferry to Zarabino. The port here is much easier to deal with. I can give you a step by step if you go to this port.
I heard from a few people and you will find this information on this website hotels dublin that the customs are a pain in the a in Vladivostok. Last year we sent a container over from Melbourne to Vlad using Silverwind (thanks to HU recommendations). It was a right pain getting the bikes through customs, but I suspect that you will get that regardless of your agent. Despite our troubles I'd still recommend them.
