One of These Night (1975) made the Eagles a household name and placed them atop the American rock hi

The Eagles' first album dropped in 1972. That means 2012 is their 40th anniversary. So where are the commemorative box sets and the celebratory Eagles tour? According to Glen Fry, the band isn't going to do much to celebrate cheap bus tickets their four decades of great music because they don't want to compete (upstage) the marquee bands celebrating their 50th birthdays. So they're going to wait until 2013 to hit the road and maybe release a new album.
That doesn't mean you can't buy Eagles tickets in 2012. The band does have a few upcoming dates, oddly all at casinos. On Sept. 1 and 2, the Eagles will be at the Revel Ovation Hall in Atlantic City , New Jersey. Then on Nov. 17, the Eagles swoop into the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas , Nevada.
Below, BSTLV looks at six reasons why the Eagles are America's number one rock band of all-time and more than deserving of a 40th anniversary blowout. With all due respect cheap bus tickets to a certain group from Boston, another from Texas, cheap bus tickets and one who likes to wear a lot of makeup, when it comes America and rock and roll, everything begins and ends with the Eagles.
Our first reason is a twofer, as in Hotel California the album and "Hotel California" the song. Released in late 1976, Hotel California is the "Sgt. Peppers" cheap bus tickets of American rock and the song is the country's cheap bus tickets "Stairway to Heaven." The magnum cheap bus tickets opus also contains the tracks cheap bus tickets "New Kid in Town," "Life in the Fast Lane," and "Pretty Maids All in a Row." If they weren't the greatest American rock band before Hotel California, they certainly were after.
The Eagles wrote songs about America and the American experience. For example, cheap bus tickets their 1973 album, Desperado, was all about Old West outlaws—there's nothing more American than that. They also wrote about the American dream ("Life in the Fast Lane"), the Watergate scandal ("On the Border"), and a Hollywood legend ("James Dean"). Even their name is quintessentially American. No other band has celebrated, dissected, and examined the U-S-of-A with the same aplomb as the Eagles.
Some bands write great songs. Some bands write great rock songs. They Eagles write both. Their songs are mature and sophisticated yet accessible and charming. They did employ talents from outside the band—Jackson Browne, Bob Seger, and J.D. Souther—but for the most part their most famous songs were written by them. Don Henley and Glenn Frey composed "Desperado," "One of These Nights," cheap bus tickets "Tequila Sunrise," and "The Long Run." Henley and Bernie Leadon composed "Witchy Woman;" Randy Meisner, Henley, and Frey wrote "Take It to the Limit;" and Frey, Henley, and Joe Walsh penned "Life in the Fast Lane." The band has a lot of strengths but their foundation is great songwriting.
The Eagles are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they've cheap bus tickets won six Grammy Awards, and five American Music Awards. Their Hotel California is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all-time. Commercially, they've sold more than 120 million records, charted five number one singles, Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) has sold more than 40 million copies, and they're the best selling rock band of the 1970s. There's not one American rock band that can rival the Eagles critical and commercial success.
One of These Night (1975) cheap bus tickets made the Eagles a household name and placed them atop the American rock hierarchy. Then they added guitarist Joe Walsh. cheap bus tickets The rock god took the band from greatness to legendary status. He gave them a harder rock sound and a little bit more of an edge. It's not a coincidence that the band's first album with Walsh was their seminal work, Hotel California. You can argue that the Eagles would still be one of America's best bands without Walsh, but we don't think they'd be considered "The Best." The question music fans should really be asking is "What would the Eagles have achieved if Walsh had been there from the start?"
They're not the most dynamic act—no windmills, spinning guitars, or the breathing of fire—but the Eagles are still spectacular in concert. Whether they're playing in a huge stadium, an arena, or an intimate cheap bus tickets theatre, the Eagles always put on a great show. They've released two live albums during their career. Eagles Live came out in 1980 and is notable for being one of the most overdubbed live albums of all-time. Hell Freezes Over dropped in November of 1994 and went to number one on the Billboard 200. Their Long Road Out Of Eden Tour (2008-2011, 155 shows) grossed more than $250 million and is the most successful concert tour ever launched by an American rock band.
The Eagles have written better songs than ZZ Top, are better musicians than The Ramones, and appeal to a wider audiences cheap bus tickets than the Grateful Dead, Phish, and Dave Matthews Band. They've been around longer than The Doors, are more consistent than Van Halen, and their music holds up better than the music of KISS.
Aerosmith has sold more records, but the Eagles have sold more records in the United cheap bus tickets States. Nirvana revolutionized music in the 1990s but the Eagles perfected the genre of country-rock and defined the California rock sound that dominated the 1970s. And they're just flat out better than Bon Jovi, Metallica, Journey, or any other rock band you can name from the 50 states. Clearly, any way you look at it the Eagles are the greatest American rock and roll band of all-time.
