DETROIT Closing arguments in the trial of a former Southgate officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman began late Friday afternoon. Emmanuel Paravas, 44, was charged last year with third-degree criminal sexual conduct, misconduct in office and neglect of duty. He testified Friday in front of Wayne County Circuit Judge Annette Berry. He is accused of raping a woman at about 3 a.m. Feb. 9, 2011, while he was on duty. The woman and her husband were in town because she was scheduled to dance at a Southgate club. He testified that after he interviewed both of them, he decided it would be best to separate them to let them cool off and because he didn t have enough probable cause to make an arrest.
