DETROIT The witness spoke quietly as she testified about what happened in the early morning hours of Feb. 9, 2011. For about 2 1/2 hours Wednesday, the woman was questioned in Wayne County Circuit Court about the night a former police officer allegedly sexually assaulted her while he was on duty. The trial is being heard by Judge Annette Berry. The former Southgate officer, Emmanuel discount hotel rate Paravas, 44, is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct, misconduct in office and neglect of duty in connection with the alleged incident. According to police, Paravas responded to a domestic disturbance at La Quinta Inn, 12888 Reeck Road, between the woman, an exotic dancer from Pennsylvania, and her husband/manager at about 1 a.m.
Police said the couple had been arguing for most of the time since they had checked in the previous afternoon. The woman left, went to a bar and came back, and the arguing continued until the couple were separated discount hotel rate by police. According to police, Paravas led the investigation into the disturbance and took the woman to Holiday Inn-Southgate, 17201 North Line Road, checked her into a room and left to do paperwork and talk to her husband again. The woman testified that before leaving the Holiday Inn, Paravas told her to take a bath and relax, and that she and her husband would be reunited in the morning. She testified that Paravas returned at about 3 a.m. and told her, Wise up or I m taking you to jail. According to her testimony, she was nude under the covers on the far bed of a two-bed room when Paravas entered. As she sat up and turned toward him, she said, the covers fell, leaving her exposed. She said he put what she thought was his gun on the dresser and walked toward her.
