If I’m staying in a hotel while on Hilton Head Island, I’m usually staying in this area. It has the

Sea Pines and Palmetto Dunes are both titled Plantations,  as they are both comprised of vast acres of trees and green space. They offer gated security in most areas, and each has their own communities with restaurants, beaches, shopping etc… so that a visitor technically never has to leave the plantation.
If I'm staying in a hotel while on Hilton Head Island, I'm usually staying in this area. It has the Holiday Inn Oceanfront, with the infamous tiki bar . If you stay in this hotel, you sacrifice luxury for location in regards to accommodations, but you still pay the luxury price if it's the high season. In this area, you are almost always within walking distance to many of the shops, grocery stores, and restaurants. Most of the nightlife in this particular area revolves around either the tiki bar at the Holiday Inn, or walking to one of the local bars. You'll find locals and tourists alike in most of the nearby eateries.
The beaches here are crowded during the high season; however, it's not unbearable. South Forest Beach is probably my favorite beach area on the island, you'll have day-trippers, locals, and families on vacation combined in this area. Also, of note are the miles and miles of bicycle trails you'll find throughout Hilton Head Island.  Check out Bicycle Billy and he'll have one delivered to your hotel.
Whenever I go, I usually rent a condo via ResortQuest.Com or through an individual at VRBO.com . Keep in mind that each of these units are all individually owned, so be sure to see pics of the property before you arrive. If you arrive late, ResortQuest.com has an after hours box for keys, and in Sea Pines the property owners can leave keys at the main office and call you in a pass at the gate.
It has many different neighborhoods, and each area has something to offer. If I were staying in Sea Pines, I would either try to stay in the HarbourTown area, or the South Beach area. In Harbourtown, you have the more upscale shopping and dining, and in either area you have access to some of the finest golf courses in South Carolina. Keep in mind that in this area, you are not close to beachfront. You would either have to drive, bike or catch the local transportation to the Sea Pines Beach Club. This would only be about a 5-10 minute drive.
If you stay in the South Beach area, you still have shopping, and dining, along with the world famous Salty Dog Café (make sure you pick up a T-shirt here you re not cool if you don t). This area during the summer comes alive at night, and live entertainment and ice cold beverages abound. There is also a small isolated beach area (South Beach) nearby where you can fulfill your Gilligan's Island fantasy, as it's usually deserted. This stretch of beach also has no public restrooms.
Like Sea Pines, it too is a mostly gated community, with the exception of the Shelter Cove Marina area. It has 3 championship golf courses, shopping and dining all within the resort. There are 2 public Beach access areas, The Dunes House and the Disney Beach House. Both of these facilities provide fantastic beach areas, with chair and umbrella rentals, and seaside dining, a bar, and restrooms.
There is shopping within the resort, hotels in calgary and in the Shelter Cove Marina area, along with the Shelter Cove Mall which has many of the major retailers. Grocery and many other retail stores are within close proximity. Bike Trails are really handy here, and even if you're staying across the road in the Shelter Cove marina area, you can bike via a path that goes under the main highway into Palmetto Dunes so that you don't have to cross the road.
I would have to say that the facilities and beach access are better in this area. During the summer, and the off-season, you can find nightly entertainment and dining in the marina area. You can sit among million dollar yachts and watch the sun go down. You can be at almost any of the resorts amenities in a few minutes via a bike in Palmetto Dunes.
To repeat from above, hotels in calgary whenever I go, I usually rent a condo via ResortQuest.Com or through an individual at VRBO.com. Keep in mind that each of these units are all individually owned, so be sure to see pics of the property before you arrive. hotels in calgary If you arrive late, ResortQuest.com has an after hours box for keys, and in Palmetto Dunes the property owners can leave keys at the Security office and call you in a pass at the gate.
Skull Creek Boathouse – 397 Squire Pope Road, Hilton Head, SC, This is a great place to eat outdoors in the evenings. They have excellent outdoor waterside dining, and an ambiance that can't be matched on the island. Large Trees provide a canopy for your dining pleasure. They have really good Ceviche, Steaks and seafood.
I really struggle to recommend one of these areas over the other. I've tried to outline the pro's and con's of each, and honestly if you're on the island anywhere near the beach, hotels in calgary there's not too many bad places to stay. If it happened to be my first time in Hilton Head, SC I would probably stay on one of the above plantations, I would not recommend booking directly hotels in calgary through the plantation itself, because you pay more money for no added benefit. Stick to VRBO.com or Resortquest. As I've mentioned, both of these areas are conducive for families with children, couples or singles. If I were single, I'd probably stay at the Holiday hotels in calgary Inn, because although it's good for families as well, it has easy access to nightlife.
I've lived in South Carolina my entire life, and I'm very proud that we have areas like Hilton Head to attract tourists. I hope this post helps make your decision easier, and I hope you get to experience true Southern hospitality while you're in this great state. Once you visit, it gets really difficult to leave, on my last trip to Palmetto Dunes, I actually had a guy tell me that he moved here from up North, because his wife used to cry every time they left to go back home! I hope you experience the same!
We are visiting HHI for first time last week of Nov. We will be staying at the Royal Dunes, can you tell us where that is located in respect to the different Plantations. I hope you have good things to say about this location as we have already made our reservations. I m hoping to b able to find some good deals on Restaurant.com if I can get an idea if any are in close proximity, Thanks for any input or advice you have.
Royal Dunes is located in the Port Royal area of Hilton Head island. It s located just outside of Port Royal Plantation, hotels in calgary which is a few miles from the other plantations. It isn t located on the beach, however, it s a very short walk or bike ride (or golf cart shuttle provided by Royal Dunes) hotels in calgary to Islander s Beach Park which has lifeguards etc , it is also within walking distance to the Westin s Beach Bar area, but you have to pay to have daily access to it. I think the location is fine, and any deal you find on Restaurant.com that says Hilton Head Island should hotels in calgary be fine, as all attractions and dining, on the island itself are all only a few miles drive. I also think Royal Dunes is fine in terms of comfort, cleanliness and amenities (golf) etc I m sure you ll have a great time!
The last pet-friendly unit we rented was #343799 in the Shelter Cove Marina area of Palmetto Dunes. The owner s were extremely helpful, and the location was great and within walking distance of many restaurants and shops. I searched for the last one I used in Sea Pines on VRBO and can t find it. Also, via ResortQuest hotels in calgary Hilton Head, you can specify pet-friendly and they ll list available units but there is a deposit. I hope this helps.
Can you recommend where to stay on HHI for a family of four. It is our first time to the area. We found a place on Folly Field which is within our budget but want to be centrally located to all activities. My family likes to be on the beach and outdoor activities. We are coming this April. Please email me any recommendations on VRBO.
Since I m not sure of what your budget is I can t really be too specific hotels in calgary with recommendations. However, I can tell you that April is a great time of year to go, and the rates should be very reasonable in most places. As noted above, I prefer Palmetto Dunes or Sea Pines, but the Shelter Cove Marina area is slightly less expensive than those 2. Also if you check on ResortQuest or VRBO for a complex hotels in calgary called hotels in calgary The Breakers , you will find that they are very close to everything, and are OceanFront.
Now with all of that in mind, the Folly Field area is also a great area of Hilton hotels in calgary Head. The walk to the Beach is very relaxing, and as mentioned renting a bike brings just about everything on the island to you. No matter where you stay, I m sure you ll find that most things are all within a very short driving distance.
The Spinnaker resort is located very near most of the activity on Hilton Head Island. You are within walking distance of many restaurants, grocery stores, and I believe it s just a couple of blocks to the beach. The pros of this resort would be the price, the location and the proximity to everything. That being said, the cons aren t all that plentiful. I would say that since it s a timeshare resort, hotels in calgary you will probably get asked multiple times about buying a timeshare etc the other con is that even though it is close to the beah, it s not ocean front. The quality of the accomodations isn t that of the Marriot, or some of the units in Palmetto Dunes and Sea Pines, however neither is the price. I think you ll enjoy your time here. Also, you can walk over to the Holiday Inn s Tiki Bar (a local hangout) and have a drink right on the beach, and if you get a chance, rent a bike.
Hi, We re from UK and planning to stay on HHI for one week this June, first time at HHI. We are family of four with 2 teenage kids and planning to rent a villa/condo.
