Over the past 8 years I've had, on average, visitors for 3 months out of every year. It certainly do
When you have visitors, do you find that it seems to be an expensive experience? Would you, for instance, expect your guests to hire a car? Go halves on restaurant meals or maybe do a supermarket shop?

Not hire a car but i don't think it's unreasonable to go halves on food and trips etc, i certainly would not expect friends or family to pay for my holiday if i was the guest. I understand flights are expensive and would be extremely grateful and very happy when we get visitors and would definitely treat them to a meal out.

P.S. None of my visitors have expected us to provide anything, we have of course as we know how they would treat us when we visit the UK. I did insist on friends using our car rather than hiring one. One thing I like about car insurance in Ontario, you insure car not person.

Food usually goes by common sense, mostly it's eating along with us..but then help out with shopping...and resto's mostly are shared (or if we pay once, they pay the second time...that way we get 2 meals out of it)

Other friends we hope will contribute and certainly pay for themselves for outings etc, to buy some booze and hopefully a nice thank you meal before they leave. This is what almost all of them have done. We've only had relatives and close friends visit so maybe that's different.
When we visit we take booze and gifts, our share of meals out and entrance fees for outings etc. Pay for airport parking and whatever we can. Also cook some meals, tampa airport rental cars help out etc. Again we've only stayed tampa airport rental cars with family and close friends.
I expect them to pay their hotel costs if we go away for the weekend, I expect them to pay their share of meals if we eat out, tickets to attractions etc. Food at home is on us unless they want something specific. All of the above is only done if THEY want to go, not because we force it on them. If we don't have a spare car or a big enough one, then they can hire one of their choice.
Over the past 8 years I've had, on average, visitors for 3 months out of every year. It certainly tampa airport rental cars does get expensive. Tens of thousands of kms spent on gas ferrying them around sightseeing and inevitably collecting/returning them to/from Vancouver. Loaned out the ski hill house when it could have been generating income, had my boat/ATV and motorcycle used and returned empty of gas...it's become an exercise in subsidy. As Novo says, it should cut both ways, but I've had enough of carrying someone else's vacation overhead.

I agree 100% RICH. If people were going to stay in a hotel, they wouldn't expect tampa airport rental cars the establishment to let them stay for nothing / give them free meals / entertain them. Unfortunately some (though not all) see trips to rellies/friends abroad a a free ride because they presume we should be grateful that they have forked out for a flight!
tampa airport rental cars I think it depends on who it is and why they are visiting. My parents, for example, come only because we are here. They would be very unlikely to choose to vacation in Southern Ontario on a yearly basis, therefore I feel that it is reasonable for us to cover the extra costs of having them here. Having said that they still arrive laden with lots of alcohol and pay visits to the LCBO while here and take us out for at least one meal. People who fancy a holiday in Canada and are taking advantage of free accommodation, athough they are welcome, I feel should pay their own way as far as trips, car rental and meals out are concerned.
