The Savoy has just gone through a massive face lift, and just in time.  The legendary London standard for luxury hotels was sold in 2004 and went through major renovations to get ready for its reopening in 2010.  Cost of the renovations was somewhere in the area of $350 million.  Just in time to showcase it to the world at the 2012 Olympic games.
The history of the Savoy is a rich one indeed.  The hotel goes all the way back to 1889 when it opened.  When it first opened, the hotel was state-of-the-art.  It boasted of such technological features as electric lighting, hot running water, and was the very first with private bathrooms.  These are all staples we take for granted today, but just think about it: back in 1889, virtually no one had electricity.  And hot water was just a thing of legends.  So just imagine the splendor of staying at the Savoy.  It must have made its guests feel like kings and queens.  It still does.
Back then, the hotel was managed by none other than Cesar Ritz.  Yes, that Ritz, as in, puttin on the ritz.   Its kitchen was run by world renowned Chef Auguste Escoffier.  The Savoy was home to royalty, including Winston Churchill, the Beatles, and actual royalty itself, King Edward VI.  And the Savoy has had its share of entertainment royalty as well: Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, Judy Garland, Babe Ruth, Charlie Chaplin and Enrico Caruso, just to name a few.
Today the Savoy offers that same level of luxury.  It still boasts of hot water and electricity (ha ha), but even more.  Its rich tradition co mingles with all the modern amenities: high-speed internet, wireless casino bus tours detroit access, in-room movies, and so much more.
