Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines announced Tuesday that it will start twice-daily nonstop service on Sept. 6 from BWI to Fort Lauderdale and daily nonstop service to Dallas/Fort Worth. The flights from BWI start at $77 round-trip to Fort Lauderdale and $88 round-trip to Dallas.
Spirit is relocating its operations from Washington s Reagan National Airport to become the ninth domestic carrier to serve BWI. Southwest and AirTran are responsible for about 70 percent of the airport s traffic.
The airline will have flights on Mondays and Thursdays, providing a link to destinations in Europe, Asia and Africa. The Germany-based carrier is the third-largest airline in Germany. The BWI flights will be operated with 270-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft offering three classes of service — Comfort (business), Premium rental car age requirements Economy and Economy.
