We booked a 10 day trip to London and would like to go to Paris in between for 2-3 days. Between work, shuttling the kids around and family errands, I have no idea how we are going to manage the trip. I am responsible for planning the trip and I'm in over my head on this one.
And of course, the sightseeing. I have heard of, and read about the lines at the attractions. Is there any tour group that can help avoid the lines and do you book in advance or do you look them up once you get there?
We were in London and Paris last fall. There is no way in the world I would want to drive there. The train was very easy to take from London royal viking river cruises to Paris. We took the Eurostar. We booked our entire package through Costco, so I can't tell you exact costs on the transportation. But we were very happy with the entire package.
One day in Paris is not enough in my opinion. But as time is always an issue, we sought out the most common royal viking river cruises and popular attractions. We booked a full day walking tour that included the highlights of the Louvre, lunch at the Eiffel tower ( a real line time saver!!), a trip on the bateau on the river Seine, and going to the Notre Dame. There are a lot of tour companies out there. We booked through Viator online and took metro from our hotel to their office where the tour departs. Metro makes getting around Paris very easy as it hits most of the major areas of interest and the walks in between are amazing themselves.
We were in London for 4 nights and Paris for 7 and then onto Italy and never needed a car. We are a family of four and found the trains and public transportation very easy to use. We bought a Metro pass, which you can get in different increments of time like a 3 day pass, that will get you around without having to fumble around for Euros.
royal viking river cruises There is a lot to say about both countries. I cannot advise you on budget accomodations, as again it was part of our package, but there are a lot of great reviews on this site as well as Trip Advisor. I usually book everything online. Especially if you are going overseas, due to the language barrier and time differences.
Thank you for the reply. I will look into the eurostar for travel. Can you please give suggestions regarding hotel and tours also? I called a couple of places for hotels but the 500 euros a night threw me off. Any suggestions for hotels or tours? Thanks
While in France, I always try the Accor chain. They have a very good website, you can find hotels for decent prices next to your chosen attraction. True, each Novotel or Ibis will always look the same but you know what to expect. The Novotel is known for its kid-friendly policy.
We stayed at the Sofitel Arc De Triumphe, but I don't know the rates. However we enjoyed it and you may like to look it up as well. It was about a 3 mnute walk to the Champs Elysees, metro, and the Arc De Triomphe from the hotel.
Depending on the number of people traveling you might want to look into renting an apartment or staying in a serviced apartment. Hotel rooms in Europe are often quite small by North American standards royal viking river cruises and many do not allow 4 people in a room. Rather than renting multiple small hotel rooms it can be more cost-effective to rent an apartment that gives your family more space and the option of cooking meals and doing laundry in the unit. Another budget option is to find a hostel that has family rooms - there are apparently quite a few in Europe.
Thank you for your help. I checked accorhotels.com and there seem to be some options that might work - one of the problems I am encountering however, is being a family of 4 - they have rooms designed for 3 people. I am still trying to see if I can get a package tour that will provide transport from London (on the train), hotel as well as a Paris tour all included. This way I can get done with just one booking.
Our lunch booking was part of a tour package. We got up the tower and to lunch within 30 minute. There were about 600 people in line that didn't have reservations or tickets to go up the tower. I have heard there are times when you can hop right on, but that wasn't the case while we were there so I am glad we had our prepaid tour/tickets arranged that day. Especially since this was our first visit to Paris.
royal viking river cruises I wouldn't attempt royal viking river cruises lunch or dinner at the Tower without royal viking river cruises a reservation. I'm sure that just going up the tower would be gratifying enough for a visit. I have dreamed of Paris all my life, so the more time on the tower, the better for me. It''s simply a matter of choice, and price of course.

They can arrange a room for 4, they either add an extra bed or it could be a joint room. We have had one like that. The rooms will not be spacious but hey, one wants to spend time outdoors Have a great trip!
