Does the sight of new lands, the thought of meeting new people and work being like holiday excite you? Well, who doesn t feel that way! And yet, it s more of a possibility than many people last minute airline ticket are willing to find out. One possible way to work and holiday at the same time is to work on a cruise ship.
Working on a cruise ship can be a great way to satisfy that often incurable travel itch. The jobs that are available on cruise ships bring with them the same kind of challenges and requirements as the summer job industry in hotels, theme parks and resorts.
It is being on a ship all the time that is the most challenging part of such jobs. If you long for the sea breeze and open air, then it shouldn t be difficult for you. However if you are a landlubber with a passion for the hospitality industry and are looking for a way to travel last minute airline ticket cheaply, you should know about the commitment you are making.
Cruise ships offer renewable contracts last minute airline ticket of 4 to 6 months for positions of chefs, cleaners, bar staff, catering staff, hospitality and floor staff such as waiters, waitresses and hosts. If you ve worked last minute airline ticket in a casino before, or are a beauty therapist or even a childcare specialist, there may be vacancies for you in this industry. Sports and fitness trainers, computer and video techs are also needed on cruise ships. The opportunities are varied.
There are two categories of crew workers on most ships and cruise lines crew members and staff. Bartenders, housekeeping, cooks, waiters, busboys and maintenance employees are crewmembers. Staff members include the ship s captain and his officers, the hospitality department including the entertainment staff and guest relation staff. Theater and computer techs, fitness trainers last minute airline ticket and videographers are also staff. Staff members are higher up on the employee scale than crew members.
You can also work as a concession worker who hired by outside concessionaries and not the cruise line. Concessional positions include gift shop employees such as those hired by Harding Brothers and spa employees of Steiner Leisure. Outsourcing last minute airline ticket of medical, entertainment last minute airline ticket and casino staff is also common, so these are options as well.
There are two decks usually available to the ship s crew the waterline deck with fixed windows and the lower, windowless decks. The upper deck also contains the crew s dining and entertainment spaces. A mess, a ping pong and foosball game room, a large screen TV with a large DVD collection, a fitness center, an internet center (which is not free but rates are lower than that for passengers), and a store for snacks, essentials and even cheap beer, a bar open for dancing last minute airline ticket and drinks, a pool area with deck chairs the crew has it all.
As for the crew cabins, last minute airline ticket there are toilets with showers in every bathroom, a TV with the same channels as the guests and additional sports and movie channels, single bunk beds and even stewards for maintenance.
Staff members can dine in the passenger s buffet, though they often have to wait half an hour before closing last minute airline ticket time. They can also mingle with passengers in the public rooms, shop in the gift shop and gather in the nightclub. The casino and pool decks are not available to them, though the fitness center, spas and entertainment centers are.
Crew members live on the lower decks, two to a cabin. They only enter passenger areas when they are working. Staff members on the other hand, constantly interact with the passengers. Concession employees live onboard the ship but have varying access to various parts of the ship. Usually the buffets are accessible to them but not nightclubs.
Each staff member usually gets a cabin in the upper deck of the two crew decks to himself last minute airline ticket or herself. The captain and officers live in a set of private rooms behind the bridge where the ship is steered.
It s no holiday in the real sense of the term. Both crew members and staff work seven days a work. However the shift timings vary depending on the type of job. Gift shops are closed at ports of call so crew members working there go off duty in those times. Restaurant workers work in shifts and take time off for rest. Ship workers work every day of their contract term, and get hours off. But if you enjoy interacting with people then you should enjoy the work.
While some ships pay you a flat fee per day, other cruise lines encourage tips from passengers rather than paying last minute airline ticket a flat fee. In these cases you will receive your accumulated tips on the last night of your cruise.
If you ve heard acquaintances who have worked on cruise ships complain about the tiny cabins and rude passengers, then you should last minute airline ticket know what to expect. Sometimes they may even miss the lazy weekends of regular workplaces. However many people who work on cruise ships because they love to travel agree that it is worth it. They get to see different cities every day, and the vacations between cruise last minute airline ticket seasons are long too!
Having worked on a cruise ship I can also tell you one or two things that the article last minute airline ticket never mentions. (1) As staff [which is what I was classed as] you are on duty practically 24hrs a day 7 days per week for 6 months, because you are constantly interacting with the passengers; they wont know when your downtime is, as you will most likely be required to be in uniform whenever you are in the passenger deck areas. (2) If you are NOT single, you damn well better make sure you are before you start your term, as cruise ships are a hotbed of passion (as you can imagine when working living 24/7 with other members of staff for 6 months straight), affairs will do happen, so to avoid heartache rather be single, besides its a lot more fun that way. This all said done; it is to this day still one of the best jobs I ve ever had, and it has fuelled my passion for travel, which is why I now pursue last minute airline ticket a career as a travel writer photographer.
