I ve gone through every car rental agency on the internet. And so far Hertz only charges a per day surcharge of $ 51.00 for ages 18-21. However, Enterprise was the cheapest but i could not get a surcharge quote from them. Point is, I m a struggling junior in college and i dont have extra money for surcharges. Is there any rental agency that doesn t have a surcharge? I plan on renting office accessories babies kids travel out of NYC s JFK airport from 8/23/07 at 11am 8/25/07 at 9pm. Thanx!
Unfortunately, I don t think that there is, as I was in your exact situation. Also, please please please don t have someone else rent the car for you to drive (as Murphy s Law would have it when I did do this, I got into a car accident office accessories babies kids travel and am paying 8000 dollars on a car that I don t get to keep )
NY law forces car rental agencies to rent cars to drivers 18 and older when they usually only rent to 21 and up and charge a surcharge till 25 in other states. Because companies want to operate in NY they have to abide by our laws but they charge significant fees to reduce the chances of anyone under 21 actually renting a car. If you are only going somewhere for two-three days it is likely to be cheaper to take mass transit and then a cab to wherever you are going since mass transit covers most everything in a one-day travel range from here. But you should look at other rental locations as the airports are the worst place to rent a car unless you are flying into a city other than NYC.
