"When they come into the program ... the volunteer gets placed based on what the child's needs are and then they are matched one-on-one with an at-risk student," Program Director corporate travel services Elise North said. "We work with the Foster Grandparent (Program) based on the needs of the student and then track their relationship throughout the year as to whether or not it is benefiting the student."
"In northeast Georgia, we average 40 goster grandparents, serving through 19 volunteer stations ... in Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Greene, Madison and Oconee Counties," North said. "These are nonprofit, faith-based, government, or healthcare organizations that partner with us to match grandparents with children and provide day-to-day supervision."
Data recorded corporate travel services from various foster grandparent volunteer stations shows that students who receive one-on-one attention from the program can benefit the child not only academically, but also behaviorally.
